Welding stiffening plate nuts?
I was wondering if I could just weld the nuts to the sway bar bracket and the front subframe to make future removal easier. I almost did it, but thought that there must be a reason why BMW didn't weld those nuts or make threads. Does someone see a problem if I weld those nuts to the frame/brakets? |

Because the are torque to yield and should both be replaced every time you take the plate off. Imagine you snap one and have to grind the nut off. Would probably suck in that area.

But why do they need to be TTY? Is it to stretch and let the unibody flex over rough terrain? Or is it something related to crumple zones?? Wouldn't it be better to just use regular bolts and make the front area stiffer? |

The TTY is to make the area stiff. I'm also thinking that if you snag something, you don't go tearing out prices of subframe, the bolts should give. I think. Not sure myself on this. I too don't fully get the point of TTY bolts here.
