MID Replacement X5 2002

The pixels on my MID we almost gone so I decided to try to fix it myself. I have a few years experience fixing laptops and misc other electronic devices so I did not think it would be a problem. However, it did not work I have spent way to much time trying to get the new ribbon cable installed and it still does not work. At this point I just want to purchase a replacement MID that someone has laready fixed. Does anyone know what the difference is in the units. My MID has a white pug and I see that many of the other units from the 5 series BMWs have a black plug. I had been under the impresion that all of these vehicles had interchangable audio systems. My MID is the non DSP version with the phone buttom. Does anyone know what the difference is between the units that have the black plug verses the white plug. I can not seem to find any information and I have been searching for a few days now.

It is currently in pieces and I think I may have damaged the contacts. Plus in my experience most people either will not work on something that someone has already tried to fix themselves or they will charge more than the standard rate. In any case the repair services are charging between 125 to 200 to repair the MID. I have found several on ebay for around 100 that have already been repaired, but they have the black plug instead of the white one. I would rather just by the replacement and be done with it rather than sinking anymore time and frustration into it.
