Is it my Battery

Just went out to my 2001 X5 3.0 and turned the key and it just kept clicling with the headlights flashing. Is it my battery or something else. Replaced the alternator two years ago, as well as MAF, plugs, coils, etc.

Sounds like it. Use a multimeter to check voltage. If it is under 12, the battery is toast. Or you can jump it and take it to autozone to have a charging test done.

Unless the current battery is less than 3 or 4 years old, I would skip 'the jump it and get it tested' step, and buy a new batt.

It is easy <20min DIY. Show & tell threads are available via Search Tab if you need some install tips...

As for the new batt, a nice slow low amp charge on a maintenance type charger, Battery Tender et al, is the way to go, before installation, imo, as the one you buy has been sitting, and/or given a hot charge, neither of which will bring the new batt up to full speed. GL, mD

Well you can go to the dealer to have them replace it. Or you can get it from Batteriesplus.com. I found the original Battery supplier (Douglas) which is now Penn Battery (Deka) That is the OE battery. Look identical to OE, but black.

Battery from dealer will be about $300 or battery from Deka will be $180.

From fading memory, the manual calls for an 80 amp hour batt. I can't recall the std CC rating...
My current replacement came from AZ or Batteries plus, I can't remember.

Hit any AZ, Costco, et al, or any auto parts joint and I bet they have one that fits/works...

And, since you are tossing your car you can probably skip the slow conditioning I rec'd and just have the joint replace it. It is not quite as easy as an under the hood batt replacement but with luck a mechanic at those joints will know how to do it.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I got lazy one day and asked them to put the blades on the X for me. Ummm, yeah the moron broke the arm off the car. AWESOME!!! Now... I'm not so lazy. lol

When I had the Audi, had them install the battery, the load floor no longer fit, kept smelling burning, and a huge rattle.

I look back there, battery is the wrong size, too tall and didn't fit the floor or the compartment. It was way too small. But the dipsh*t thought it was still ok.

Battery was at Pep Boys and Wipers at Advance Auto.

Back in business. Replaced the battery with an Autocraft
AutoCraft Gold Battery, Group Size 94R, 730 CCA

Bought it online to get $25 off and picked up at local Advanced Auto. Total minus core charge of five bucks was $151. I would have bought an Optima if I was keeping the X but opted the cheaper route. Comes with a 3 year free replacement and seven year warranty. I plan on selling the car asap.
