I probably wont have time to dig deeper until Saturday afternoon.
is there any way to test the MAF? Thanks for the input. |

OK - I just did some research on the MAF. I think I can test it, however, because this vehicle took a sudden initial hit, then quickly degraded to un-driveable, could that still be the MAF?? From what I see the MAF being dirty, or even going out completely would degrade power, but not to this extent.

Happened to me on a Lexus. The power reduction, was epic. No amount of cleaning would help my maf. The amount of error codes I had was epic too. Only when I borrowed a maf from a friend, did I confirm my suspicion.

Multimeter between pin 5 of the maf and ground. Rev engine. Voltage goes up. Not precise, but will def let you home in on it.
But a freebie code read at about any auto parts store will likely be effective. If it is a MAF, get a genuine Bosch unit. And watch where you buy it. Places online that tout prices but are twice what you need to spend. I bought mine at CarQuest for well under $200 and new in the box Bosch same part numbers as what came off the car, etc. And, Regarding the sudden effect: Yep. |

OK Here's the new info:
Tonight I checked the secondary air pump, It comes on when I first start the engine and runs for a couple minutes, but I found that the hose from the air cleaner to the pump had come disconnected, probably setting those 2 codes. I started the engine, disconnected the MAF plug, engine died immediately. Started it back up, and it runs about the same as if the MAF is plugged in. I cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, no noticeable difference. I have not checked the voltage yet. In park, I can rev the engine very slowly up to about 3k, but I have to get to that point very slowly. If I try to rev quickly, it cuts out. I also used carb cleaner to test for vacuum leaks. I sprayed anywhere I could see a hose/tube on top of the engine, but could find no sign of vacuum leak. Any other ideas, before I have to take it into a shop on Monday?? |
