Help...X won't start but all else works
The last few days I have had to turn the key 4 or 5 times to get it to start. This morning it gave in I guess. Everything else works fine and does not appear to be the battery and I get no codes or warning lights. I assume it has something to do with the ignition but I could not find any help searching the forum, but I was not really sure what to search for. Any help would be great! Shawn

Need more. My first guess would be the starter but I think more info is need.
What happens when you turn the key? Is there a clicking sound? Does it the engine turn over? Is there dead silence when you turn the key? All dash lights come on when you turn the key? if yes, what does the engine appear to be doing at the same time?

When I turn the key all the dash lights come on, radio on, gps on....but no sound at the farthest turn of the key where it would normally turn the engine over.
It does not try to start like a bad battery, no clicking noise, no starter noise...nothing at all.

Dead silence to me would mean there is no power making it to the starter or the starter solenoid is completely fried.
You said over the past few days it took 4 to 5 times to start it. In those instances what was the step-by-step reaction from the moment you turned the key? Was it dead silence the first 4 to 5 times and then on the 6th try it just started as normal? Or did it make a clicking sound the first 4 or 5 times?

Just dead silence the first 4 or 5 times and then it started. No starter noises, no clicking from dead battery. Just dead silence when turned to the start position. Only sounds before it were the door chime and stereo coming on.

Bad key? Do you have two keys? My primary key went bad and this symptom is the same.

Nah, I concur.. It sounds like a starter. The contact points are worn out. So as you keep trying the contacts move ever so slightly until they make contact and the starter works. Easy way to check, well on the X it is a little tough but give the starter a slight hit with a hammer. I am not saying whale on it, but give it a few taps and then try to start.
Another way to check is to use a multi meter and check for voltage. Should be 12 volts coming out. If it is, and power is getting to the starter, starter is dead.

I do have another key so I will see if I can find it and give it a try.
If it is the starter, can someone tell me where it is located on the X so I can give it a good "tap" to see if it works. I have done this on other cars before so if I can find where it is located I can handle testing it. Thanks, Shawn
