Bentley or eBay DVD Repair Manual?

I did some searching & found this thread that mentioned the Bentley e53/X5 Service Manual and the sub-$10 eBay DVD BMW X3 X5 Workshop Service Repair Manual, but there's not much said about the quality of the information in either. I didn't find much else said elsewhere about either manual either. Anybody care to share their experiences with either item?

Part of me says to go for the DVD option -- not much to lose with it -- but at that price it seems just a bit too good to be true. I own a couple of Bentley manuals (e28 and e32) and am pleased with them, but have heard less than flattering things about some of their later BMW manuals, so I'm a little hesitant to make a ~$90 investment in something that may not be worth it.

Thanks for any thoughts you have on the subject!

You don't have to get the manual new. You can always pick it up used. As for the DVD, I used one for my Acura Vigor. It was crap. Instructions weren't clear and I thought I was able to print a chapter that I needed. Well the way it was set up, it printed the entire disk, not each chapter or page.

I'm sure things have changed since 2005, but that is just my opinion on the DVD. Go with a tested and proven working method.

Buy the manual

For something that you will be referring to more than you think there is something to be said about being able to grab a book and thumb through it. You end up stumbling upon a lot of things that will come up. $80 ^^ = good price. I'd buy it if already didn't own one.

Mrbmwx5,

If the OP doesn't want to purchase your used manual...I'll take it off your hands for $60...including shipping.

Let me know if you can part with it for that price.
