I ended up going to Four Seasons Auto in Alsip, IL. Very good work, very decent prices. The only thing is they don't have a wheel alignment shop. But they do get it close so you can drive to get the alignment.

Never heard of them, and they're only a couple of miles from my house. Glad everything went well. It's a real relief to have someone you can trust work on your pride & joy!

Wolf, if you ever do call, ask for Mike. Great guy. I bought all of my parts myself. Got a CV boot, tie rod assembly, both upper control arms, 4 tires mounted and balanced, for under $700. Got the alignment from NTB for $125. Rennology wanted $560 just for the CV Boot. All said and done, they wanted $1300.

Since my last post on this topic I've been back to the Indy I recommend a couple of times for minor things; oil change, winter tires, etc. This last trip was something different... I asked them to check out a small oil leak (literally the drips on the garage floor amount to the size of a 2 inch circle) and they came back with a huge estimate for the repairs. I'm talking over $2000.00

Additionally, they recommended changing the cabin filter and air filter at the following cost: air filter $31.60 plus $57.40 for install. Cabin filter $50.46 plus $64.40 for install. Brake fluid flush; fluid $70.16 labor $149.50

I just picked up the air filter for $12.92 and the cabin filter for $19.95 from autohausaz.com plus shipping.

Thoughts?

Common oil drip is the oil filter gasket between the oil filter housing and the engine block. Although the gasket is under 10 bucks, you must remove the radiator fan, radiator fan housing, serpentine belt and alternator in order to access the six bolts that holds the filter housing to the engine block. Over time the rubber gasket becomes hard as rock and no longer seal. The only way that I was able to remove the gasket was to use a heat gun to soften the gasket so that it would come off the aluminum housing. Took me about a half day to take it apart and put it back together. My mechanic wanted $500.00 to fix the leak. There's a youtube video on how to replace the gasket.

They're saying it's the timing chain cover & flange. I'm not disputing their findings, however their labor rates seem really high.

Additionally, I wasn't too thrilled with what they wanted to charge me for the filters and install. Obviously I'm doing that myself!
