Sounds like the alternator, dealt with Bosch in the past and a few faulty straight out the box new !

If its been refurbished and you think it's a heat related problem, it sounds like a bad connection or dodgy soldered joint, as the alternator heats up it expands the connection breaking the contact = light on

Although did you test the old alternator after it was hot ? And get 11.5v as did refurb through town, could be bad pin in plug or bad signal wire, sorry I'm not familiar with connections on the alternator mentioned

If you stuck old alternator back on and tested it on motorway it might prove this

Hope this is some help

Old alternator went straight to 11.5 volts as soon as the engine was started - definitely a different problem than this one. When engine was shut off the voltage went back to 12.6 or so - battery voltage.

I just did another 130 km round trip and the alternator worked perfectly well (65 km back with no stop and startup), except when I stopped for gas on the trip out. Then the same problem. I monitored voltage for the whole trip and it varied between 13.9 and 14.05 except after the stop. Then it dropped to 11.5 and stayed there until I turned off the engine for several hours.

Swapping water cooled alternators is a multi hour job, so I am reluctant to do that, especially since I am sure the old one is dead.

had a similar problem

Replaced alternator with a rebuilt bosch. Kept getting intermittent battery light for a few months before taking it in. Never had any issues while driving, just the battery light flickering or staying on randomly. I'm not sure, but I think it was the regulator or a fuse that was bad. Ended up replacing again...
