there seems to be functional difference between the US and the AUS trailer modules (A6) - while the plug seems to be the same, the AUS A6 supplies more signals to the pins that are empty on the US version. AUS has trailer rear fog lights extended to to the trailer. it also seems that the A3 (LCM) may have different functions... still looking for answers...

ok, has been a while since any issues, but about a week ago the radio issue flared again - this time it stayed off for good.

Did the fuse pull (7, 72 and 73) to see if it would "reset" but alas no luck - still no sound radio. The NAV worked but was silent.

To rid myself of one possible cause, I got a brand new battery 4 days ago. Didn't make any difference to the radio - same problem. Whilst in there, checked for moisture in the spare wheel well but was dry.

Then last night at 3am (of course), the alarm decides to go off, the battery dead as the proverbial doornail. Had only driven the car for 1 short trip since the new battery, and the truck has sat idle for 3 days following.

Going to get the NRMA (AAA equivalent) out this morning to test the battery to see what charge is in it. Getting pretty sick of this...

Next step is forking out for BMW Dealer diagnostics to see if they can shed any light (or lend me one so I can set this truck alight )

OK, NRMA just out and said the battery had 3.7V, so something is sucking it dry.

As per previous posts, my auto-electrician could only find minimal amp draw so wasn't able to see anything that would cause this. Next stop BMW.

As an aside, radio is now working again...

Take everything out of the trunk and see if you don't have water in the trunk. Could be shorting out some module if you do.

Yeah already checked for moisture - none near the battery and can't see any anywhere else.

Check the two cubbies in the back? The left side has the amp and CD changer, the right side has the subwoofer and assorted relays and fuses.

mate the two cubbies are as dry as a dead dingo's donga (always wanted to use that in a sentence!)

When ferreting around, I noticed the Nav DVD was making plenty of noise - like it was reading the DVD or whatever. The car has been sitting there unlocked this morning after the jumpstart (took it for a spin and now have it on a charger), but obviously had to open the boot to look at the two cubbies. Could the boot opening cause the Nav to "wake up" (hence it is on)? Or perhaps the Nav is constantly on which draws the current from the battery??

Nav and CD changer has power to it because you don't need to turn on the radio to remove the CD's or DVD. Do an ammeter reading test to determine how much amp is being drawn, and begin pulling fuses until the draw goes down. That will be the circuit that is drawing amps.

Was at my auto-electricians for 3 days testing in October and he did that and found minimal draw (0.003A)...
