Prepping for Sandy

Hi Guys,

I am getting ready for the storm here in NJ. I have the truck all ready in case we have to go any where. I was checking online and from what I read max wading depth is ~19 inches. Can anyone confirm this?

What is everyone else doing? Is your X your only flee vehicle?

Not sure about 19 inch. I had a situation where I had to go through a huge puddle. There was an accord abandoned in the puddle. All you could see was the H on the trunk and some of the plate. I raised the truck and went in. The water resistance made the truck nearly stop. So I gunned it a bit. The X took it like a champ. The worst is to stop in the puddle. If the exhaust fills up with water, you might not start up.

If shit hits the fan over here. I'm taking the F150 quad cab. I really don't think it's superior to the X, but it's less electric. During Irene I was going through all the shit imaginable with it. Not one hiccup. Water over the hood and all that.

Thanks Slick for the post. I get a sense that you and a few others are the only ones active on this board.

My biggest concern is debris falling and hitting the truck in the drive way. However, there isn't much I can do about that.

Nah you should thing twice about going. I hear they are going to close highways, bridges. All depends on wind gusts. and even if your SAV can make it, can you imagine a couple of million idiots here, some will go out and see if their cars can float. If the rains come down like they say I guarantee low elevation places will be mini ponds.

Yea CNC just came home from installing 2' board by all the low entrances. Now just sit tight and read the forums.

Stay dry everyone.

I am here too. Got done building a 2x8 platform for my washer and drier and rigged up a drill powered pump incase the power goes out.

I have ALL OF MY DEWALT (Ah ha Slick) lol Batteries all charged up and ready to work. If the power goes out, I'll sit by my sump pit and start pumping water. lol If it gets real bad, I'll start up the Chevy 2500 6.6l Duramax with Allison Tranny! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

Desalt is dead for me. Makita for the win. They replaced all my batteries by the way, and told me to keep mine. I now have 3 fully functioning bats, and one I have to rig. So there. Lol. Between all the batteries, I have a good 15 of them.

Yea the power thing is an issue for me too. If it goes, our investment property has two pumps that must work during huge rains. We didn't get our generator yet. It might suck, major. I might be making that F150 work for it's money come tomorrow night.

Lol, I knew a come back on the Dewalts were coming lol. Yeah I was going to buy a generator, no one has one. Ok, fine... I'll buy a backup pump... No one has one. Ok, fine. Bought some drill powered ones. I am just going to build a generator out of a 3.5 hp Briggs pressure washer motor. I just need an old alternator and a Dc to AC inverter and a 12 v battery and I am good to go.

Would have been helpful before the freakin storm though, lol

Exactly. I keep forgetting to rush these generator installs. I'm getting one for my house too.
