Man you picked the wrong time of year to buy a used X5, the cold weather seems to magnify everything thing that's wrong with the X5, good luck tracking down the noise.

haha, I was just saying that this morning. Never buy a car going into the winter. 1 you dont have a good chance to really inspect it (I dont have a garage I can really use) and 2. I always tell people never to get worried if your car starts acting up in the winter time. If its acting up in the spring you have a problem.

Point noted.

ok - so the battery seems to be fine. I pulled it out and tested it on the bench. I tested in the low 12's, which considering how little I had driven it was fine. I threw it on a charger for about an hour. Turns out its actually a very expensive Mercedes OEM battery. I couldnt find the date code on it, but from what I was told was relatively new. took me a while to find it but its basically 49/h8 battery. I'll use it till it dies then swap it for something thats not MB. I feel kinda dirty knowing that its got a MB battery.

Hah, go buy yourself a gold plated ferrari battery. Doesn't mean it'll work in your X. Do yourself a favour and do the crank test as has been specified by myself and others......

I did. had the lights on actually for about an hour as I troubleshot this license plate light out issue I have. Started fine. Its speced the same as our battery, I looked it up and crosses with the same battery ours crosses with. maybe the only difference is that its marked as silver calcium vs straight lead, which I have read can require a higher charging voltage, but the interstate megatron is a silver calcium battery as well. Like I said, its working fine now, it was free, and I'll replace it down the road if/when it goes. I've got bigger fish to fry like the mayo i found under the oil cap which also means I may need to start taking a longer way to work!
