2004 transmission in a 2002 e53 3.0i help...

Well, I searched to see if anyone has done this and couldn't find anything. The days are numbered on my wifes x5 tranny. I found one out of a 2004 3.0i, how do I figure out if it will fit?

Automatic?

If so, it is a different transmission. The vehicle electronics are different, so I wouldn't expect the transmission to communicate properly with your vehicle.
