Question about a motor swap.
I got a 2006 3.0 (m54) x5. I was woundering if i would run into any problems if i put a 2001-2005 3.0 (m54) x5 motor in it. If i do run into to problems what would it be. BMW couldnt tell me if it would work or not. Thank you much |

an m54 should be an m54
You might have to swap all the externals, intake manifold, sensors, accessory drive, oil pan, etc I put a 330 engine into my 01 3.0 |

^+1. The engine will be fine. You'll definitely have to replace the AC compressor and secondary air pump. You might have to replace the power steering pump too but I'm not sure.
Thing is, when you buy an engine, you usually get it without any accessories. Pick up your new engine, swap over your existing accessories, and then send your old one back as core. Job done. A 3.0L M54 is a 3.0L M54. Period. |
