Sometimes it can work for several weeks and suddenly it will not work, the sound goes away for some reson.

The stereo is still on and i got all the functions exept for the nav and sound, is this the display that is messing or is it in the trunk?

it is probably in the trunk, but we need more info on your setup - DSP, NAV, TV?...

you are very laconic in your description, and the answer can only be very broad... the issue can be anything, from loose connectors, to water-damaged modules...
to narrow down the problem, you need to try several things and make a note of the results... next time you lose your sound, try to see if it correlates to a bump on a road, to high temperature, to rain, humidity... note if the nav is going blank, or frezzes or whatever... try to bypass the nav module and see if sound comes back...

we are trying to help you diagnose the issue but we are remote to you and need first hand account in order to help... and as much info as possible...

Now i have taken all apart, the cd changer, dvd / navigator and the head unit. I have checked all cables and nothing wrong. I also have done this step: 1) Insert key but do not turn on ignition
(2) Turn on headlights (don't ask but it works!)
(3) Disconnect battery
(4) Remove fuses no. 7 and no. 41 from holder in glovebox
(5) Wait 5 minutes
(6) Reconnect battery & plug fuses back in

Now when i have done all this the display is all black, the orange lamp shines but the display is black!

So what the F**K is this?

It's probably the amp, do a search here on the site and you'll see that amp failure is somewhat common. Per your description of the problem everything works but you have no sound, well what makes sound... the amplifier.

BMW X5 DVD - 2 din 7 inch DVD GPS Navigation System For BMW X5 E53 - Car DVD GPS Navigation

Think its better to buy a new one instead of searching for the fault on my stereo
