Squicking noise coming from Transfer case

2003 6cyl,
110 k miles

It sounds exactly like the brake pads are touching metal,
but the sound is coming from the transfer case

Makes a light to moderate squeaking/metallic sound at low speeds. Sometimes at very low speeds and where the are walls to reflect the sound I can hear , not sure, but like gears, but not grinding ?

It only happens during acceleration

it sounds like loud squekky brakes,

no slipping sound, no gear grinding sound

no chain slipping sound,

can this just be a stretched chain or what ?

Yesterday, I took care replacing oil in the Transfer case. But the noise that I described above is stil present.
I used Dextron 3 as it was recommended.
What could it be? Did anybody have the same issue?
Thanks

How did the oil look? What color?

The oil was dark. We inspected the oil for any particles.
There was nothing in it. Dark but clean.

I would check the carrier bearing on the rear output shaft ( prop shaft ).

If it was a bearing on one of the inpupt/output shafts on the transfer case, you would see some leakage. If it was the chain, you would see some metallic signs in the fluid.

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.8is Drive shaft, single components, 4-wheel

#8 on the link.. You can't miss it... it's the large output shaft that goes between the transfer case and the rear end.
