Front sports (electric) seat noise and 'clunk'!!
My '05 E53 with sports electric seats has a really annoying little clunk when having come to a stop and then moving off again. Almost like the back rest is 'clunking' back a little. It is sometimes apparent when turning corners too. It appears to become less frequent for a time when adjustments are made to seat position/orientation etc, but I have not been able to identify which of the adjustments appears to effect it. Can anyone point me in a direction to investigate the cause?? Also, is there a kit (shims, grease, new bolts etc) that can be bought to recondition the seat frame?? A new frame from BMW Aus is in the vicinity of $2,500 AUD..... Ugly!!! ![]() Thanks all!!

i will try to search but you can look it up too - search for seat "clunk", "snap", "click" on E39 - there used to be an extensive discussion about it on the e39 forums... try to check out the bmwtips.com, they might have something listed... ( i have a little article on that site for a door handle replacement)
i thought that problem was resolved in E53 - there is some kind of clip that either breaks or bends - it was so long ago, that i don't remember details... |
