Hooked up the used LCM no change, no turnlights i dach. Messured current over the 30amp fuse in the trunk(no70?) and there was a current with no key in even after 10-15min. Started to disconect modules radion, nav, changer still no change but when diskiónecting the dsp it whent to 0. To a closer look around the dsp and ofcourse it was swiming in water. So my firts accosiation to the submarine was almost correct. So whent up to the stealer and put the tech in my trunk for a swiming lesson So whats my next step? Has the wet dsp and phone distroed other thing? Or will i be fine with new dsp? Br |

not necessary - the dead/wet DSP may kill the other modules but, it might not - the modules do have their own internal diodes for protection, and one bad module passing bad signal to the other should not kill it... water, that shorts things (and thus, bypasses the protection offered by the diodes and the other components) can be a problem...
have water taken out/dried up, make sure that the cause of internal flooding is resolved (clogged sunroof drain??), return the LCM back to breaker (if possible) and get yourself a replacement DSP... |

Ok, So I will hunt down a dsp to start with.
My worries are that other things needs to be replaced. I mean if i found this problem four weeks ago when problem first started i think i would have gote away with only the dsp. But sence then i have gote more problems Terminator Will a bad dsp shout down the nav system? See the nice contakt for the phone, what should i do with this? Then when i think about it is it time to install something like a huligan or some other after market steroe/nav? Should i try to start the car with every thing dissconekted and see if i get turning light in dash? Thanks for respons |

holly-shmolly, dude!!!!!!!
did you ford some river???? the interconnections between the DSP, the NAV, the radio module and the phone module are in the sound wires, as those modules are powered via individual fused links... So, one module going down would not necesseraly bring down the other modules, it may bring down an audio channel, but... When you have water that will cause corrosion and possible short circuits, all bets are off, as those short circuits are not "pre-designed", they are random - you may have those modules killed independetly from each other... The Nav is sitting relatively high in the side of the trunk, and you need to fill the cabin with the water all the way up to the headrests to flood the Nav... the phone unit (is it a Bluetooth?), the DSP, the Radio, the PDC (you have PDC as seen on the picture), the tow module (if you have one) and the TV module are all sitting in "tub" environment and water can kill each one individually... when electrical flow finds a new path due to a short, the X5 (and any other device) will act very strange - you may lose the turn signals, or, your fan can stay on all the time... Disconnect the fuses for all the non-essential equipment (see the list i wrote above) by pulling the fuses (if you need the fuse info, check the WDS schematics), and see if any of your driving issues are resolved, or, if any NEW issues have manifested themselves... For the contacts that are rusty... how good are you with electronics? What I would do in this case, I would take the connector apart, clean it up and replace each of the pins with a new one - they are NOT gold-plated, so they will corrode... You can get the entirely new plastic connector from the dealer, probably about $10-15 for three piece connector - 61136920062, 61136909070 and the cap 61136920074. the terminals that you will need are either 61138369696 or 61138369700, or you can use terminals from Digi-Key.com, part # A28327-ND |

there is a crimping tool for everything.. lol... I am old school - i am using small side cutters to cut and strip wires (even though I have strippers, I prefer using side cutters), and small needle nose pliers to crimp the connectors onto the wires...
To release these pins in the telephone connector (and many other connectors in the trunk) you need a small pick (technically, even a pen tip will do on these particular connectors)... There are some other connectors that I have used two needles to get the pins out... |

Holy shit. Your drain tubes are clogged up dude. You need to try and blow them out with air. Then pour water into each drain tube, and see if it comes out the bottom, or trunk. If water still gets in the trunk, you need to investigate more. Like spray water at windows, then trunk, then sunroof. See where it's coming from. You might have to take down the headliner as the tubes might be detached. For the time being, drill a few tiny holes in the low spots in the trunk. At least get the water moving out if it gets in. Make sure you paint any exposed metal with something like POR15 to protect from corrosion.
Yes, the water can take your nav out. On the pass side, in the trunk look for where the power wires go. You will see one go in the area of the spare, but maybe higher up. It looks like a closed plastic box. Once you open that up, there are more fuses in there. Check that.

So I turned the key with every thing but the video module disconekted and light are back to normal it seems and screen is back to life alá bios style. The used LCM is still hooked up and i will disconect tomorrow so i only treid breifly to put the key in position 2.
So if I understand correct and if im luck and the only thing that is freid is the dsp. I should have a wroking nav and stereo? Plese if somebody knowns will there be sound from the stereo with the dsp disconected? As i understand there is a small amp int the bm24 module that will provide all speakers with sound with out any cuting in the wire harness is this correct??? The only thing needed is the coaxial cabel from cd changer to bm 24? I will start conecting module back tomorrow. Please any thoughts |
