Eletrical problems BMW says bad radio and LCM

So this is my problem:
4 weeks ago I started the x5 and the sound coming from the speakers sounded like it was playing from an submarine under water. Then went away totaly in the next few days.
Dsp and phone dissapeared from menu. Radio and changer started and worked.

2 weeks later the 16:9 screen started to get black ones in a wile and with in a week it gote totaly black.

Self levling intact came on a few times, i think if i remeber correct when the gps gote going.

Once the car wanted code in 16:9 before i could drive away.

Car behaving verry strang light whent on after i took out the key, auto light dissapeared, this happend and then and drained the battery once after charning its started as before with same problems. Noturn signal in dash but worked outside.

Drove one more week, left the kids in school and got back to the car 5min later, battery totaly dead. Try to jump start no succses, changed battery to new and it started as before.
Now the Nav came back for about five minutes then frozzen scrren and then black. Still no sound.

Drove one week with the new battery.
I get out to start the car, start motor cranks but wount fire try different keys no luck.
Next day it starts as normal but with same fauls as before.
Next day no battery, chared it and drove to dealer.

Dealer says, no contact with radio modul and no contact with LCM. They whant to repace both for something like 3000dollar.

The car has DSP, cd-changer nav mk III, 16:9 and cordless seimens.
4,4v8 2001

Ingnition swith changed when problem started no change, new battery I have driven with a voltmeter in cigaretlighter and it showes 13,7v wile driving. Fuses cheaked.

So what shold i start with new radiomodul and se if sound and screen comes back to life? Is it possible for a bad radiomodul to shot down dsp, phone and nav? I now they can steel power.

Its a shame on a nice locomotiv as the x5 still is that the eletrical is so sensitive.

I will pick it up from the stealers to morrow, please any thoughts!

you probably have an electrical drain somewhere... and a bad battery (even new battery can be bad, who knows how long it was in the warehouse before you bought it)...

The radio, CD, monitor, DSP are not essential items to drive a car. I would suggest disconnecting the Nav, the radio module, the CD changer and the DSP and drive the car without those electronics to see if the engine starting problems will continue... just because they can not communicate with a module, does not mean that the problem is with the module - the problem might be somewhere else, and they are trying the shotgun approach, in hopes that it will fix the problem.. at your expense...

Bad batteries are known to throw whole bunch of unrelated problems...

Um, dead alternator. See the link in my sig. Follow that and do an OBC voltage check. I bet you are not even reaching 11v, when you should be at 14 while running and lights, and other things on.

I was informed that X5s are very sensitive to electricity. If you've changed battery recently then X5 goes into electronics-crazy mode Get a good battery buddy!

Thanks for fast replies.
Regarding alternator:
I get 13,7volt in cigaretlighter while drivning proof of ok alternator?

I also get the impression that the try to shootgun there way to the real problem.

Regarding bad radiomodul will it shootdown nav ect?

I will have the battery tested.

Was the new battery the correct BMW battery? Or at least one with equivalent size and power?

Have you tried a load test with a good quality battery tester on the new battery to confirm it is good?

After sitting for several hours, can you test the voltage of the battery (before starting the car), and tell us the results?

Did you clean the battery posts and cables before installing the new battery? (Always a good idea!) With something like this:
BTC3A, Brush, Terminal

You definatley want to rule out the simple stuff before moving on to the more expensive.

I think it was 90 or 100 amps ?
The battery cabels looked good and i did nothing to them. There is a drain some where and I suspect the radiomodul. BMW gets no contact i have no sound and I have found here that its possible that a bad radiomodul can drain the power.
How about a bad ground is this common on the x5?

So gote the car back from stealer today. Start with all the problems as before.
Picked up a used LCM at the pick and pay scrap, so I have read about the tamper dot that will pop up, but my plan is to test only with this and see if light is back to normal with out driving with it.

I have the LCM III and i bought a LCMIII but the rest of the numbers dont match is this a problem? The price was around 7$ so hope its money well spent.

Took out fuses for the radio two in the back and nr 7 in glove compartment so hope fully the battery wount be drained.

Parked the car and checked voltage after a couple of hours and gote 11,6V from cigaretlighter normal?

But still im woundering will a bad radio modul shout down dsp phone ect?

If I have 13,7 volt when driving in cigaret lighter then my alternator is ok?

Ok thanks Slick then I dont have to worry about battery and alternator.

So the 1000$ or sorry 3000$ question:

Will/can a bad radiomodule shut down nav, dsp, sound and phone?
