Looking at a 2001 X5 69k miles
Good afternoon German car owners. This will be the first German anything purchased if I buy the amazing looking truck. I have read many different threads the las few days regarding how much they love/hate their x5. Im wondering if any of you have some sort of checklist I should bring with me when I test drive it tomorrow. Seems like a Cairo asking price but great that it only has 69k miles on the v6. Any advice helps, I really have never owned a German car, just japanese. Here is the listing.
BMW X5 Excellent condition 68K miles - all original - clean title! |

Little lite for the miles considering its an 01 but its not impossible. Get the history of what was done to it and you'll find the rest if what needs to be done here on the forum. Best of luck and welcome aboard.

Look exactly like the first X5 we bought in 2005 with 32K mi. Ours is 2002 with black interior, DSP and high cluster. Now it's our daughter's and she lives in Issaquah so you might see the X around.
Before you make any offer, bring it to the dealer or good BMW Indy shop to have PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) then base your negotiation on what need to be done. It costs about $150-$200 but that's justified if you're serious about the SAV. Keep in mind that there will be some major maintenance around 100K mi with cooling system overhaul and suspension refresh. If you can wrench on your own car, you will save $$$ on labor. Otherwise, be friend with a good mechanic who knows bimmers. I wonder why no interior pictures in the CL ads. I click on KBB link and the seller check mark Sport Pkg and Running Board which that X5 doesn't have. Excellent condition is $11K, and good condition ~$10.5K. I wouldn't pay more than $10K for it if the PPI check out fine. Ask the seller about maintenance history. Here's our daughter's X5 at its current stage with 135K mi. ![]()

What tmv said, esp doing a PPI...I would skip a dlr and drag it to a good Indie. If the seller won't allow, I would walk.
Fwiw, that X is the non-sport pkg, if that has any bearing for the potential buyer: 17 inch style 57 wheels, (great for snow tires, but not most buyers' pick for oe wheels), and the softer suspension. And, our '01 has ~86,000 miles, so that low 69k miles may not be out of the question, though I would question the current owner carefully as to whether it saw lots of low mile, local driving, and seldom got tripped for a good run. You would hope its as clean as advertised. If you are going to check it out in person make sure you drive it a few minutes. Check all jams for paint lines and the panels for alignment. If the miles are that low then the condition of the car should reflect it.
