BMW Coding Tool is your best friend when using NCS, I have it and was able to code both the E46 and X. Took me 2 tries, but the second time worked like a charm.
Make sure you open the Coding Tool first and follow the directions given within the tool itself. The only thing is that not every item is translated, still have to do some Google translation to figure out some of the options if you don't speak or read German. The biggest success for me with this tool was getting rid of the Inactive Suspension message on the dash after swapping the air for coils. Did the window thing, the DRL disable, fogs on with HB and a few other minor things.
