Leaking Valve Cover and CCV

I noticed drops of oil under the X5 the about two weeks ago. They were small drops, but when I looked underneath the entire bottom plate was covered in oil that had blown all the way down the chassie while driving.

I checked the oil and it was dry! No drops on the garage floor and only two or three small drops on the ground at work? Where'd it go?!

I put 6 quarts in and called my indie mech and took it in. He said it was bad news. I said how much is bad news $2k? $3k? He says oh no not that bad. He says its no more than $1600.00 I said OK so what the problem?

Eventually we look at everyting and it's the right valve cover gasket leaking and the crank case ventilation valve leaking.

So he takes it for a few days while I'm out of town. I come back at it's only $1200.00 Like new again, almost.

Now he says the engine mounts need to be replaced and a transmission mount. my estimate was just over $1k to get that done. He says it is a bit labor intense.

Has anyone had engine mount problems before?

So the mounts are under $100 each. Trans mount is actually quite easy to access, quite a bitch to remove.

I had both of my mounts done for $150. But don't use my numbers, my mechanics are buddies. Still they quoted someone else I referred $300 to do both mounts.

What is the mileage of your car anyway?

Yeah, $1000+ seems a bit high unless they're charging you dealer prices.

Glad you got it sorted. Not to piss on your already heft bill, but the VCG and CCV are incredibly easy to replace. Should only take you 2-3 hours. The parts to do the entire VCG and entire CCV cost less than $400.00. Where'd the other $800 go? Come to think of it, I think your indie might have ripped you off by about $500.

After reading a few posts it does seem expensive.

I'll have to get a few quotes

However the quote did include replacing the transmission mount also.

189,350 miles

Just looked at the estimate. $642 for mounts and $367 for the transmission mount.

Free loaner car.
