Topview, Roundvision, Birdseye for E53 (added video)

Hey guys...

How much would be a decent price (granted, a $1 would be good!!!) for a Topview, birdseye, roundvision camera system for the E53?

I have found a Chinese (oh no!!! electronics made in China??!!! no way!!!) company that makes a box, that takes in 4 camera feeds, and "stitches" them together and then spits it out on video output... I was thinking, that video output could be fed into the video input of the reverse camera - the input does not care what you feed into it, an image from reverse camera or a DVD player... lol...

It seems that their price, with the box, 4 cameras, stitching calibration things (you need to calibrate the images using external points of reference in order to align them) runs about $400... not sure about the shipping yet...

Is it a decent price for such a system? or, should i keep on waiting, untill it becomes dirt cheap?

If i were you i'd wait for a bit .....
A lot of Chinese companies are in the process of making/replicating the birdseye view camera now. When i was there back in Sept, from East to South China, every Reverse cam suppliers of our company are working on it, just wait till they become cheaper.

i am in direct talks with with the factory, they are not even on ebay.. they sent me video of their system but i am not sure if i am allowed to post it on utube... the video is of the system in operation... granted, they use toyotas and whatnot, even though they claim that the X5 is not a problem, and even sent me pics of the cameras for the E53 - but the two versions of the rear cameras that they have are both incorrect - one is the license plate camera that does NOT fit in to the light opening, and the other one is integrated into the trunk opener - the whole rear thing is an integral piece with internal circuit board and I am not sure of the handle part can be separated...

I did modify the license plate light camera for my car as documented in one of the rear camera posts but it is NOT plug-n-play...

I will let them know abou it...

Ok, here the video that I got from the manufacturer. The switch from rear view to front and to the sideview cameras at the very end of the video happens with the aid of a remote switch supplied with the system. Technically, the system can be set for the rear view only and left as such.

The video is available by the direct link only, I take no credit for the video, I just think that it is easier to see once than to hear a dozen times...

after some bitching session, the manufacturer suggested this rear camera. Has anyone seen this camera in person? does this one fit the license plate light opening better?

I think I still have one backup camera like the second one in your post #5. I don't know anything about the one in #7. It might fit better.
I still don't know how the yellow lines work in the video without a steering wheel sensor. Do you know what they use to do that?

I have the same camera #2 off the post #5 in this thread.

Instead of cutting into the trunk handle in order to fit a $20 camera, I cut the camera open to fit into the $150 part of the $75K car.

Here are some pics
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...a-navi-14.html

The manufacturer connects the topview box to the OBDII computer and pulls the steering info from there - I can not confirm that those reverse steering lines will be operational on the X5, even though I think it would be awesome. Manufacturer needs a specific signal, that I do not know if that signal is present in the X5 OBDII pinout. I will look up in the docs, to see what they call that signal, and will post that info for you guys to decipher...

I still think that it is a bit too steep to pay $400 + $60 for FedEx for the system with 4 cameras and calibration keys. The system is calibrated similar to the Alpine system that I saw on the Youtube - you have sheets of pattern laid around the car at prescribed distances, and then calibrate the views of the cameras to "fuse" the images into one continuous image around the vehicle...

I have not asked the manufacturer about the static image of the car in the middle, if that could "match" the actual X5 that we have, and maybe even the color of the car... it is a bit too much at this point, as some other issues are still not resolved...

I just heard from the manufacturer again, in reference to those steering lines on the reverse image - they claim that the X5 produces those lines with no problem, as the "DSC" signal is present in the OBD II outlet.

Also, they claim that the reverse cameras that I have so much beef about, are working fine on the Chinese distributed X5s... I did not insult them by asking if those were the KNOCK-OFF cars or the real McCoys... hahahaha

Still, I am not sure if I want to invest half a "G" into something that is not confirmed to be working fine on our cars... I am still debating this part...

Unless somebody wants to try them out and if you are in relative vicinity to DC, I can try to help you out with the install...
