can you write off the lease for business? That is another factor to consider. But if you do a lease I would recommend the 328i instead. Or if you would rather have a 3 series vs. an X5 - why not buy a 2006 330i? Those have a much more reliable motor vs. the turbo 335i and while down 50hp, still won't disappoint compared to your X5. If you can sell the X5 for $12K and pick one up for around $17K with half the miles, you are going to be money ahead in the long run.

Put $12K down, finance $5K which is about a $150 payment on a 36 month loan with darn near zero interest rate so you lose nothing really. If you drive 12K miles a year you will save $1K a year just in gas alone. Insurance should be a wash. You will certainly save money in repair bills with a E90 330i vs. a E53 X5 V8. And you still are driving a great car.

Food for thought.

I agree with everyone! If you have nothing major going wrong with the X5 nor anything major you anticipate going wrong, ride it out. Your fortunate situation of no rent is great and you should have the cash to fix anything that does go wrong. See how things play out for a while, then decide what to do.

I recently go rid of my X5 because of repairs but I knew it had immediate things that were worn or broken that would have totaled a large percentage of the value of the thing so to me, it didn't make sense to do that. I was also ready for a change anyway.

As mentioned above, putting all kinds of money down as a down payment on a lease is silly. I just explained to someone the other day that if you put down thousands and total it as you pull out of the dealer's lot, you lose that money. I'm not a lease guy anyway.

Congrats on the bright looking future!

Yup, I'm keeping her.
I am rebuilding my TC right now for a total cost of around $800. I also have a source for a reman TC for $1500. Do yourself a favor and drop the TC out yourself. You'll probably need a new front driveshaft too?

I agree Naz. You are getting a bit shafted with that TC repair.

The problem I'm running into is that I'm already 600 deep at the dealer if I pick up the car now bc of diagnosis.

I know I can get it for cheaper. My father won't listen, he wants it done at stealership

Good luck with the repairs Naz, did they give you an itemized estimate at least of what they may replace with the TC? Any other items under there that might be worn? Are they lookin at the driveshafts too?

Going to call them tomorrow. I was so preoccupied with finals and projects.

If this doesn't fix it, there will be a big problem.
