Another New Owner.....4.6is
Been lurking and researching here for a while now. Lots of great info and I'm sure the site will become a valuable resource. Picked up a 2003 4.6is with 57k on it. Thing is absolutely mint and the seller couldn't have been easier to work with. My S5 goes back next week off lease and needed something to get me through the winter and also become my daily when I buy a toy in the spring. Loving the X so far and couldn't have asked for a better 10 year old vehicle! I only have this one bad pic so far....

Nice looking 4.6! Low mileage examples are hard to find. Looks stock... you gonna sink some $ into mods?

Thanks for the welcome.
I tend to leave my cars pretty stock, but there are lots of thinks I'd like to do. I blame this site! I'll most likely do the M steering wheel. I'd like that to be it, but I'm going to miss some of the technology in the S5 like Bluetooth, Nav, back up camera, and the amazing stereo. Just not sure I have the desire anymore (I'm 40) to go through a big aftermarket stereo install. We'll see though. I've been looking at all of the Parrott, Media Bridge, Dynavin, Houligan threads and I get all amped up to do it. Gonna give it a couple of months and see how I feel. |

did it not come with nav? check to see if the BT is installed or not... left rear - you should see the modules there...

57k miles? Wow, that's a find. Practically new. Don't forget to check your CV boots - seems like every E53 needs them replaced eventually, and a tear is possible even at that low mileage.

What interior color and trim color?

Black interior. Piano black trim. No Nav. Does have the premium sound w/DSP. No Bluetooth. Have the "sneezing man" on the steering wheel and TEL button on the head unit, but nothing happens.
I can't begin to describe how good of shape it's in. It's never seen winter. Will be a shame to subject to all the salt and grime from this point forward, but has to be done. Have 18 inch replicas of the stock rims with Pirelli snows. Avoiding putting them on for as long as possible. The 20s look so darn good. Supposed to snow Sunday though. I'll check the CV boots. I do have a bit of a droan/whining noise at highway speeds. Could be a wheel bearing, but may just be the Michelins. The rears are close to the end of their life. When I put the snows on, I'll see if it makes the same sound. Part of me thinks I'm just freaking myself out reading everything on here! I went into this knowing these weren't the most reliable vehicles, but I've always like them and couldn't pass this one up. If I have to put some money into it, I don't mind. |

I'd recommend immediately picking up the Bentley manual for the X if you have not already. It's worth every penny. You will refer to often. Personally I like to have physical book to turn to when doing any type of auto work. And if you pick one up used you could always dump the difference into being a Premier Member here. It'll support the site and you will have access to and 'Online References' tab between the 'How To's' tab and the 'FAQ' tab. Best $75 / $35 I spent on the X all year. Heck, it's almost less than a gas fill up.
