4x4 doubt

I have a E53 3.0D 2002 (not xdrive), and today I replace the brake pads front and rear.
As the car was lift up, I spin the rear well, and front wells dont moved.
If its always 4x4 why not move ???
Can you explain me?

I dont know, but the gear box is automatic.
I think the transfer case is a NV 125.

The transfer case on these is essentially the same as an open differential. That's why your fronts didn't spin when you turned the rears. Under power, it's about a 70-30 split r-f.
