S221A - 2-axle self-levelling suspension
Does S221A indicate that the the air springs are only at the rear of the vehicle? Thanks. |

I have this set-up on my 2002 E53 X5, works fine - never an issue. If you have questions, drop me a line. FYI, I just changed my rear shocks to Bilstein B6 (the real yellow mono-tube design). Another post on the digest covers it, but their catalog was in error. GREAT improvement on the car.

Does S220A (Self-levelling suspension) only provide the air springs on 1 axle? Thanks.

I just check my option list (which any BMW dealer will retreive for you, they usually want to see your your title and some form of ID - to confirm it's REALLY your car. There are people who do dodgy things in the world.
S220 is rear-only self leveling suspension for the E53. No dash control for height adjustment, that comes with four wheel self-leveling suspension (I don't know the option code). I can absolutely confirm this as well as confirming that you CAN use the Bilstein B6 yellow rear shocks with this. After my persistent questions and letters of their error, they have corrected their on-line catalog. It will take the various parts vendors some time to update their systems. |
