Bmwtvboy is on a distinguished road
Given the road conditions and weather systems in the New England area it might be that you have worn bushings. Oddly he didn't mention the lower bushings. If you have the air suspension have a reputable shop check out the "bags" for cracks and wearing. My 2001 X5 is 174K deep. Original rear with no noticeable issues. However I did recently do a complete front end rebuild because of worn struts and a general poor handling. The vehicle has spent most it's life in FL and Oregon coastal range. Not nearly as extreme as New England. Good luck.
