I insatlled an alpine navagation/camera/dvd/cd player/internet/video system in my X5 and love every minute of it. If you are a diy'er like myself it should only take a day or two and the options and detail is much better than ANY factory system.

Put another way, it gave your life some direction

Joe Puma and King were the pioneers on the nav retrofit and I tip my hat to both of you for having the courage and skills to prove it could be done

I have a 04 X5 and just returned from a trip with my son. He bought a M5 and we picked it up in Seattle and drove it to Calif. The M5 has NAV and it was great. I am looking into the cost to have someone install NAV in my car, any info you have found would be appreciated. What is the cost, is it $1,800 plus $700 I would pay that for a professnial install.

My question is to eveyone with nav, is it realy worth it and given the choice if it meant paying more to fit after the event would you bother.
Basically the maths work out that if I buy the new kit from 'roveractive' all new parts, plus fitting. Then by selling my 05 radio module and my OBD unit I can get a little bit back.By taking the fact that nav was a $1800 + tax option in the first place and the cost of an aftermarket unit ( I want nav somehow )the balance comes out to be about $700 ish out of pocket.
So the question is it worth it boys and girls.
Would apreciate some nav user feedback.
I would hate to spend the money and go through the pain of seeing the car in peices only to discover that we never use the system !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a 2003 without Nav and really wanted it. After looking at the cost I sold the 03 and bought an 05 with Nav. A few K more but I got a whole lot more with it!

My 2004 4.4 has OEM nav and I can't imagine going without in the next X5...I was in Tampa this week...all the roads are torn up, the city was fogged in and I missed my exit...with the fog I was totally lost...the nav re-routed me...if you want something quick, reliable, and not too cluttered, my wife uses a Tom-tom in her 325ci...$500 or $600 bucks with rebate and the graphics are killer...(and you can use it in a rental car)..with the 2007 m/y, won't the current system be a dinosaur? Also, when you go to sell, the VIN will reveal that the Nav is not a factory install...I think the Alpine system someone posted here looked awesome...that would be my aftermarket choice.
