Having your e53s info in a signature not only helps us to help you better...it also helps the "silent majority" that reads the forum but never post...and it also helps other forum members when searching and run across your replies in other's posts, or in posts that you create...because they can compare your situation/issue/problem to theirs as well as your replies & responses to others based on the perspective of your model's info.

For instance, if I had seen this question prior to you posting the result...I would have known instantly that you could have reset your SI display without question...and would have posted the info below that describes that the e38/e39/e53 built after the 9/2000 build date can reset their SI display by using their instrument cluster. This means that your 8/2000 build date means that you have to use the 20 pin DLC in the engine bay to reset the SI display unless you've gotten lucky with a "goodwill" replacement cluster from BMW NA that has a remanufacture date after 9/2000 which means that it can also be reset using the buttons on the cluster.

Really consider adding that info...you are a great benefit to the forum and your info not only helps us to help you...but it can help others by just being available.

EDIT: actually I'd like to make this appeal to ALL forum members that have NO model/model year/build date info listed. It really does help us help you better. There are multiple models (3.0i/3.0d/4.4i/4.6i/4.8i), with multiple engines (m54/m57/m57n/m62TUb44/m62TUb46/n62b44/n62b48)..with multiple transmissions, and multiple other changes that occur during the production cycle from 1999-2006

...or simply hit either the 'Articles', or 'How To's' button at the top of the page..

As for the 'silent majority', I'd say that's their look-out if they want to stay silent.
