Hi Nick,

I admire your work you have done on the X5. I have an E39 M5 and want the same tranny in the X5. My dad has a 4.6 he is handing down to me so I will use that. My question is what did you use for the transmission mount? Did you use the E39 mount for the S6S?

Valentin

Hey man, never mind I found your other posts. If i ever end up doing this I will probably just end up going the rear wheel drive route and build a custom mount for the S6S transmission.

Hi!

The S6S box is flanged on the transfer case, so there's no tranny mount in that sense.

If somebody had the skills and a shop, they could make bank doing this swap for kindred souls who need to have V8, 3 pedal E53...

Hi!

I have a workshop in Munich, Germany, but the manufacturing costs for the rear gearbox housing are higher, than the actual value of 4.6is - the only way to produce them in some numbers, is to have a least 6-7 X5 owners rady to make a prepayment in some xxxx amounts, which will make that lucrative.

Otherwise there's an allready mentioned option to reweld the housings of very stable G6S tranny of facelifted diesel X5.

But I very very doubt this conversion will bring a single $ due to the low prices of the E53.

Nick, can you entertain me and post an eBay listing of the EXACT transmission I'd need? I'm just not putting this together in my head, but you're saying I'd need to buy the transmission, have something on it welded amd it'll just bolt up...then I just need to buy pedals, flywherls and clutch? Before and after, side by side, etc pics of your work would be awesome.

Thanks, deepblonde. Since its from an I6 engine, now I'm not sure how it mounts up. Even after reading this thread twice, I'm still not picturing how this'll work, whatever else I'd need to make the swap, etc.

This way; or if you're willing to lose AWD probably be easier as you could use what you can find in the U.S.A.
