Battery replacement needs reprogramming?
My question is can i just put a new one in and be done with it. Or does it require special coding/programing so it can communicate correctly with the car like on the newer BMW's. it is a 2005 4.4i. thanks everyone |

No coding/programming needed. Just put in a new one and be done with it. That's the beauty of old tech!

You'll probably get the money lights on the dash come up after installation, but just drive it and they should clear within a hundred yards or so..

you may want to add a trickle charger or other to maintain the electronics while you swap out the battery. when i did mine, both the 4x4 light and the airbag light came on after the new battery was installed. the 4x4 light was removed with a turning the wheel lock to lock. the airbag light remains and can only be removed with inpa software, f.y.i. - not sure if my case is unique or not, but had no other problems before the swap.
also, i would have the battery that i was to purchase from xx auto parts store charged at the store for four hours on their charge prior to purchase. i just went through a headache with two batteries with Nov. 2012 dates of manufacture that I had them hook up a v. meter reading prior to purchase and still had issues. we ultimately charged the battery at advanced auto parts for 4 hours ( the new battery) and then installed it. no problems since. finally, i would 'prep' the trunk area for the swap and be aware not to shut the door or gate closed after removing the old battery as the electrical system will not allow you to open the gate after it is shut.
