You will get used to the throttle. Simple muscle memory.
My recommendation would be to start studying the forums in regards to maintenance, specifically DIY. Your X will inevitably need repairs and you don't want to have to fork over big $. It sounds like you are technically minded, so it should be reasonable for you. Also, modify it a bit  Enjoy!
