Are you sure the radio is not turning off after a fixed interval?
Do all functions work properly, like can you set date/time?
I had a similar problem and found out it was just a relay (disconnected somehow) in the rear compartment. The radio would go into the weird you can turn me on and listen without a key mode, which turns itself off every 20 min or so. I couldn't set time but could play CDs/radio no problem when on.
It's a green relay (on mine), on the passenger side of the trunk compartment. Pop that panel, and look left of the fuse cluster, closer towards the rear seats. I just popped it back in and everything was good to go, there was a second relay there that was also out and I think that was for my rear defroster.
One of these I think.

1/ radio just goes off with no warning at no specific time and no specific length of time but seems to come back on with a play with the sat nav and switching it on and off. all audio is lost when it goes off including sat nav voice and cd player.
2/ i just purchased a v50 phone as it did not come with one and when i plugged it in it worked fine for 2-3 phone calls came thru thespeakers and the mic worked.the next day i went to call and it wouldnt select telephone on the screen option and this is how it is to this day.when people call in it doesnt come thru speakers yet it still charges so it is plugged in properly.
i would just disconnect the battery to reboot it or something but im affraid the stereo might need a code when i switch it back on and as i didnt get one wth the car i might be worse off if i do . can anyone tell me if they have experienced it before or if it will call for a code if i disconnect the battery. when i tried to explain it to the dealer they didnt have a clue and said i would be better taking it to a auto electrician or replce the head unit which seemed to be a leap to a costly solution without trying other options. help is much appreciated . thanx
