06 4.8 N62. Oil for engine and Auto Transmission

What oil are you guys running, thinking about Royal Purple for engine, and OEM for transmission.

Thanks Ted

Not another oil thread

Use what is recommended in the owner manual for engine oil.
OE ATF is good, but pricey. I put ZF ATF in my iS.

Any name brand 5w-30 that has an API SM or SN designation for the engine.

BMW filter.

You can use the BMW fluid for the transmission but may find a better deal on the ZF Lifeguard fluid appropriate for your transmission model (LG6). Recommend you don't use generic multi-purpose fluids.

BMW or ZF filter.

5w40 is the key to cut down on the blue smoke. Redline D4 or any other equivalent to the ZF Takesalifetimetopayfor fluid will work just fine.

don't forget to change the trans filter / mechtronic sleeve while your in there

USE THE GOOD OIL FILTER NOT THE CHEAP CHINA ONE!!!

mine runs quieter on the liqui-moly 5w-40 (BMW LL-01) than the 5w-30 castrol.

I used the ZF Lifeguard -6 fluid when I did a partial flush.

OE oil is blended for BMW by Castrol but isn't an oil you can buy other than through the dealer.

BMW 5w-30 has worked well for me on multiple six cylinder BMW engines. Stands up to 24,000 km changes just fine.

Some would say the issue is the eight cylinder valve stem seals, not the oil. Some owners are compensating by using a heavier oil, with less lubrication/higher friction, but also more resistance to passing by the seals.

Thanks for all the responses, I see that for the trans the group is pretty set in the ZF lifeguard sounds good, I 'll do the same. As for engine I will probable stick with the Mobil 1 0w40 or try the royal purple.
