HI guys

I was vondering if I could fit the BMW overhead DVD system to my X. I have the sunroof so I'm not sure. If this is possible, how much would it cost me?

Thanx in advance

Saxi

Here's a new one in the color grey for $575 - http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-ENTERTAINMEN...QQcmdZViewItem

It will fit as long as you do not have the panoramic sunroof (post April-04 production). If you have an '00 through early production '04 with the standard sunroof then it will work just fine.

With the panoramic sunroof your only option is headrest monitors.

I think headrest monitors are the way to go. It looks clean and both rear passengers have their own screen like being on an airplane! The roof mount dvd is obtrusive to the driver since you can't see through your rear view mirror. I've been contemplating doing this mod for a while now...I think I just might do it.

BMW now makes headrest monitors for the X5. Finally! They were only available for the X3 up until recently.

UCrew, would you go with the BMW headrests or something like Vizualogic? It's nice to have a built-in dvd player and they are still cheaper than the OEM by a few hundred bucks. But of all the mods in my truck, I don't have any aftermarket components at all...wonder if the vizualogic logo can be taken off the screens!

Hi Arvi. Like you, I like my components to be OEM where possible. This is one case where I would probably deviate and get an aftermarket setup. There's lots of advanced stuff out there that is much better then what you can get from BMW, IMHO

Arvi you mentioned on another thread about the new advanced BMW DVD system. Is it like this?

It's cheaper too. The OEM BMW DVD entertainment system costs $2300 from the stealer and the cheapest I could find on eBay is $1800, which comes with the 2 lcd monitor headrests and the OEM dvd player. You can find the Vizualogic aftermarket headrests online for under $1000. Here's a company that sells one made for the X5. They also have one with a built-in DVD player in one of the headrests here for about the same price as the OEM system on eBay.

Now if I could find an option for a DVD entertainment system for my X5 that has comfort seats (truffle brown) and a panoramic sunroof, my life would be complete!

In agree with you.The roof mounted Dvd is very obtrusive and people only notice after they have installed it in the car!
Here in Europe, you get a lot of manufacturers offering this feature standard on their top of the range cars and the majority are roof mounted, which in my opinion is not very safety conscious!
At the moment,I have a single dvd player playing on to my front screen, but I am also looking at the best way to do the headrest monitor mod.
