2001 4.4 engine swap?

Ok, so I have a 2001 X5 4.4 with what suffered from a timing chain problem and now is junk.

My question is.

can a person get a "long block" (as in block/pistons/crank/heads only) from a 740il car and swap over the x5 specific parts (oil pan, pump, valve covers, intake, cyclone valve parts ect ect.

has anyone done this swap? reason I am asking is I can find 740il 2001 motors all day long for around 2200 bucks. some have low low mileage on them like down to 41k I have found

x5 4.4 motors are about twice that it seems. I am assuming they are taking advantage of the rig being all wheel drive.

but I have looked up part numbers.

seems that the block is different part number? not sure why at this moment possible motor mount issues?

pass side head is different part number? again not sure why yet

crank, rods, pistons, valves, cams, all chains, valve train parts ect ect are all the same according to realoem.com

let me know if anyone has done this.

thanks again

oh yeah the motor I am pulling out has 216K on it.

As far as I know all the M62 parts are interchangeable, the only thing you have to look for is obviously that you need a TU version of M62 in your X5 to run on stock ECU.

What's the problem with your current block? Are the cylinder walls scratched? Gasket burned out? Don't see any reason why you should get e new block after timing chain extension/failure...you won't need even any new heads in case the valves are broken, actually.

Have you opened the enigne yet, if so - what's the condition of cylinder walls?
