My Engine Chirps
Is related to engine speed and is coming from the left hand side of the car - the alternator side...... I changed the accessory belts recently so I'm thinking it may have something to do with that? It is quite a slow tweet so I don't think it's a bearing it sounds more like the old clutch fan's and the slipping noise that you would get with them - you know the hollywood typical make the car sound clunky with the high pitch belt noise, it sounds like that but a chirp maybe 3 times a second at idle....... Any ideas? I'm thinking of turning the belts around so that they travel in the opposite direction......

Continental belts? I have the same issue. I put original back on, which say continental, no chirt. I don't get it.

When you had the belts off did you happen to spin the idlers? When mine started to go it would make a sound like you describe right at startup... eventually progressed to sounding like mice under the hood. It was definitely an oddball sound for a idler bearing.

I actually replaced it all at the same time. All pulleys and tensioners.

 A seam on the belt somewhere that maybe doesn't line up exactly from the manufacturer? Since its not a constant noise, you would figure it has to be a specific spot causing it.

I used to have an AcDelco belt and it was making noise every time the seam would pass by the roller that is contacting the exterior side of the belt.

Yeah they're continental belts.....
I've had pulley bearings go before on other vehicles and it sounds like a chainsaw, because it is hitting the dud spot in the vicinity of 4000rpm at idle but at 4 times a second (240 times a minute) it has to be making the noise everytime the belt hits a certain spot. I'm thinking it's being "realigned" on the idler pulley once per rotation and that slight sideways movement is causing the squeak. I will take it off and turn it around and let you know how that goes
