Transmission question

I have troubles in the front diff, and am wondering if I disconnect the front two wheels from the driveline temporarily, will this be an issue. My plan is to remove the front two cvshafts, front diff, and front driveshaft. Does anyone have experience with this, and know if this will be okay and not cause computer, dsc, abs related issues with the computer if I drive the car while I get the parts for the repair?

Regards,
Guil

It will deff cause some sort of fault. You migh as well just unplug the harness from the actuator on the transfer case.

Let's imaging that electronics weren't existing, but how are you planning to cover the holes missing components are gonna leave?
I have no idea how it's attached, but to me it seems like some dust and dirt will be there instantly and then you insert a new part....

Your computers will have a fit. It would be interesting to know if you could still drive the truck with your dashboard lit up like a christmas tree.

I dont think thats really possible. How would the front wheel rotate? I suppose you could disconnect the input shaft into the front diff, but that would definately fuck up the computer, especially one thats trying to sense wheel slip (although I bet it measures the wheel slip using the ABS sensors... hmm)

If you remove the cv axles, you will loose your wheels. The cv housing holds the hub into the wheel bearing.

If you REALLY want to do it, the cv axle needs to be disassemble and you keep only the cv housing that bolts through the bearing to hold the hub, but without the axle going to the diff.

update

I have removed the front driveshaft, and cv shafts, using the cv/stubs to retain the bearings. I am having no issues with the computer as some had thought.... including myself. I have picked up a Bentley manual, and impressed with the completeness of it. Still love this thing despite the diff issue. Very solid and well made, all of the great BMW traits, and it tows 6000 lbs! I will get the parts, and replace them asap. It appears that I should have checked ALL fluids, or replaced them when I got the car.

This is my daily driver, and since I have toys, I need to have the option to tow. I have had two other 5 series, and am into them. This one covers the bases.

I have a few issues, including "no esn" when I try to get the sirius running, peeling steering wheel trim(ugly), and the pixel issue with the audio/computer display. Also, a nagging rattle from the panoramic roof when traveling over rough roads. This is less when the roof is in vent position or open. Besides the few issues, can't say enough good about it. It is built like a tank, better than any car I've owned.

Cheers!
