Steering rack needs replacing?

I had a project this weekend to replace the left and right tie rods(inner bad outer). However when I removed the boot which covers the inner tie rod nut I had fluid gush from the boot. This was on both sides. I know that theses boot shouldn't have fluid in them so the rack seals must be leaking. There suspect that the steering rack need replacement.

Is this a fair assessment or should I be looking for another cause.

If the steering rack needs replacement has anyone completed a DIY.

Many thanks

X info?
I assume by "fluid" you mean power steering fluid? If so then yes, the seals are toast. Have you noticed the level in the reservoir dropping?

I had very good success with Lucas Power steering seal when I had my Audi. What do you have to lose?

Yep, it was power steering fluid. I haven,t check the reservoir for a while. When I filled it up just now it took about the same amount that came out when i removed the tir rod boot.

Looks like an expensive repair if I have the replace as the steering rack alone is about $1900US...

Thanks, will consider this as an option...once I work out how much and quick the fluid is leaking.
