2006 x5 3.0d - service advice

Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone could give advice on the service I should carry out on an x5 of this age with 60k miles on it? I was also wondering if you guide me on the other items i should service such as the tranny, diff etc?

Is your car manual (mine is) or automatic. Change fluids, even those that BMW says are "lifetime". Coolant for sure, use only BMW coolant. Engine oil every year. The normal air, oil & fuel filters as well as pollen filter. Brake fluid every two years (and clutch as well, if your car is manual). I'd also recommend you retrofit magnetic drain plugs in your transfer case, diffs and (manual) transmission. I wrote an article on this (in the forum) and a follow-up for the BMW CCA magazine.

Thanks for the reply mate. I do agree that lifetime fluids are a bullshi* story. I change the trans and diff fluid in my 325i every 40 k's and at 104k miles on the clock, the tranny is so smooth that every bit of effort in maintining it is justified. My only problem is that I do not have instructions on how to do the service. I couldn't locate a hynes manual at my local store. I'm mainly in need of diy's to be honest. Also the gearbox is an auto.

i have the same car same km, i to have had all the fluids changed, and have the engine oil and filter changed at 10,000 km intervals, i ignore the service indicator lights. i do however have a good independent mechanic, he checks the car over at every service and will advise me on what may need attention.

ive recently had to change the struts and rear shocks, and also the front outer drive shaft boots.

Suggest you also check the rubber mount in the harmonic balancer at that mileage. I just had one let go and eat the belts. I also changed the power steering hoses and the three belt tension pulleys while I was in there. I took the PS hoses to the local earth moving hydraulic hose shop and they replaced them, not from the Stealership.
