OE BMW LED interior light kit

Has anyone installed these bulbs in their X5? It's an original BMW item. The kit comes in 4 bulb and 10 bulb versions, but the only bulb sockets that it seems to work with are the 3 bulbs in the front headliner (the center roof light and the two side map lights). The p/n of the 4 bulb kit is: 63 12 2 212 787. The p/n of the 10 bulb kit is: 63 12 2 212 788. The additional photos show what the two LED bulbs look like and the final photo shows what the one LED bulb looks like next to the original bulb it replaces. The second LED bulb that looks like a printed circuit board as far as I can tell does not fit anywhere in the E53 X5. If I'm wrong please correct me!

This is what it says on Realoem (RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i LED interior light package)

For vehicle passenger compartment only.
The LED modules are not approved for
installation in exterior lights.
Either one or several LED interior lamp
packages may be required depending upon
the number of interior lamps.
Socket configuration for LED module:
T10 (for replacing W5W and W6W bulbs).
Use for replacing Soffit bulbs
(C5W, C6W) is not possible
owing to different bulb shape.

I replaced all the interior bulbs to white LED. Bought them on eBay

Meister, those I'm sure have the typical BMW mark up on them. If you want interior LED's, check this thread. It's got everything you need to know.

Hey guys I appreciate the feedback, but I got the set for free from a friend and even though I'm not terribly interested in changing over to full interior LED's, I'm more surprised according to Realoem the 10 bulb set is appropriate for the E53, yet only 3 bulbs seem to fit properly!? So if anyone has info on this BMW kit that would be great.

also the oem LED light kit fits the bulb in the side view mirrors and the trunk lights. I also bought the 10 bulb kit and change all my interior lights to LED. For the reading lights inside the car, you have to buy the 39mm LED bulb to fit, and you also need to buy 40mm LED wih no-code function to replace the bulbs in rear plate.

I'm confused by your reply. Breaking it down

- You said the kit fits the side view mirrors and trunk lights. The kit is for only interior use (no exterior bulbs) and the trunk lights are a different connector than either of the 2 styles of bulb in the kit will work with

- How did you change "all your interior lights." The rear seat lights in the headliner are not compatible, nor are any of the footwell lights.

- What 39mm or 40mm bulbs are you talking about? I am only asking about the 2 bulbs that came in the kit. Not anything else. (See my first revised post)

In the first pic you upload, it is for front reading light in the headliner (close to interior rear view mirror) and outside rear view mirrors, the second pic you upload is for trunk light (remember to turn the light side up when installing). For footwell lights and rear reading lights in headliner (above rear windows), you have to buy 38mm-40mm festoon led lights to install (total 11 bulbs: 4 in the doors, 2 in the footwell of rear seats, 2 in the footwell in front, 1 for the glovebox, 2 for rear reading lights). For the lights in rear plate, you have to buy 2 festoon led lights with so called 'no code' function. You can find those festoon led lights in eBay.

Hey Roger -

I'm still somewhat confused, though your reply is excellent.

1. I agree with the 1st pic and the front reading lights in the headliner (all 3). That bulb replaces the Bulb 63-21-7-160-908 12 volt 6 watt Xenon.

2. For the outside rear view mirror bulbs although I'm sure you can replace those with this kit, it does explicitly say they are not for exterior use.

3. For the 2nd pic you say that they are for the trunk light. Where is this trunk light located? Are you talking about the 2 lights in the upper tailgate (near where the grab handles are located) that some sites call the Rear Deck Lid Interior Lights? I'm definitely having brainfade about these lights.

4. I agree with you, all the rest of the bulbs seem to be festoon type. Either p/n 63-21-7-160-805 or 63-21-7-160-912 or 63-21-7-160-915 for which BMW does not seem to offer an OE replacement which is rather annoying.

5. Lastly, looking at all the interior bulbs the one I am still most confused about is #2 in this link: RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i VARIOUS LAMPS/SPARE BULBS BOX

It's #2 Halogen Lamp 10 watt p/n 63-31-8-371-610. It says quantity 4 which I completely don't get. It looks like it refers to the rear deck lid interior lights in the trunk lid, but there are only 2 and I thought they use one festoon type bulb each.
Even more confusing is #3 which shows the -908 bulb but says it uses 4 of them!? How is that possible? Any idea about this one?

2. take off the mirror cover, you can replace the bulb.
3. take off the bulb in the light assembly and replace the bulb with the one in pic 2.
4. BMW does not offer OE kit to replace interior reading lights/footwell lights, you have to buy them somewhere else (eBay or ...?).

Simple job.
