You need to put a wrench or socket on the nuts above the pan. Put something to support the pan because it's HEAVY.

I think I know what you're talking about. There are nuts on top, get another wrench up above and spin the wrench below. Use an impact on the bottom if you have it. If all else fails, PB blaster.

I think it is the reinforcement plate under the engine you refer to? If so, those bolts have a nut on top that you have to retain. The tight ones you will need an impact wrench or a bigger wrench.

Fml. yeah its the reinforcement metal plate. I guess there has to be a nut above. But I dont even know where to slide in a wrench to hold the nut above. this thing is just insane. At this point i think it might even be ATF fluid leaking as the resevior is really dirty and the hoses running from it. Also looks like fluid from there disappeared. I will find after the fan is out.

There's no ATF reservoir. If you been putting ATF fluid in the Power Steering Reservoir you might have just screw up the power steering system. Or you may have lucked out if the power steering system uses ATF instead of Pentosin hydraulic fluid CHF 11s. The cap on top of the reservoir will indicate which fluid to use.
If you are replacing the oil seal between the oil filter housing and engine block, you don't need to remove the metal pan. If you are doing an oil change, you don't need to remove the metal pan.

There's a power steering reservoir and it takes ATF.
Nothing to screw up. Quote:

right next to the oil filter? And I did a top off at one point as it was low. It is atf that the power steering uses? And cap says ATF on it.
I am replacing the oil filter housing seal. And reason why I want to take pan off is to get the oil cleaned up and see if there are any more leaks.

If this is what you are talking about, it is your power steering reservoir and yes it takes ATF fluid not power steering fluid
![]() As for the stiffening plate on the bottom you need to get a spanner in above it to hold the nut and you will need to get the car up on ramps as you need to lie down underneath the car and contort your arms in ways you probably haven't before (Mechanics have lifts which would make it that much easier)........ You don't need much traction on the nut you just need to get a spanner onto it, I recommend a flare nut spanner like this ![]() (Can't remember the size though I think it might be 16mm) once it's on you can just make sure it stays on the nut and crank the bolt from below, let the spanner spin with it and eventually it'll butt up against a part of the chassis or undercarriage and will hold the nut still from there. Same deal to get it back on except put your hand in between the spanner and the chassis so that it doesn't jam in place. It is heavy so don't be under it when you undo the last bolt, if you have it on ramps use your jack to hold it up and then it should stay in place even with all the bolts removed, then you can let down your jack, it's almost impossible to get back into place by yourself without a jack so may as well get the jack ready
