No sound from radio
Hi, new to the forum, thanks for making this available. I recently purchase a 2004 x5 4.4. Couple of weeks ago the sound from the radio stopped, then it came back on. Last week it stopped producing sound on Tuesday and hasnt worked since. The radio itself is working, just no sound. I have tried replacing all 3 fuses and still nothing. It does have DSP, but when I press the button for it, nothing happens. Any suggestions?

2004, 4.4, DSP. more info would be nice to have...
do you have Nav? which 3 fuses have you tried? do you have Bluetooth? any crackling sound from the speakers? any hissing? humming noises? how handy are you with electronics? are you able to identify modules, check the connections, are you able to solder things? just trying to get the feel of how deep we can go with the assistance... Are you able to find the DSP and check for the dislodged wires? rusted wires? speaking of rust, is there any moisture in the trunk? |

I changed the fuse in the glove compartment (7 I think) and the two in the rear labeled for the radio. No Nav/no bluetooth. There was some crackling during the first occurrence, no noise at all now. IM not handy with anything but I have a friend who is. I removed the spare tire, there was just a little moisture on the wheel which I believe was condensation due to the recent cold temps. Not sure where the DSP or amp is. Thanks.

in the case of no Nav, the actual radio module is located where the headunit is, and the DSP should be in the normal place, where the CD-changer is. Do you have the CD changer, do you know where the changer is? it is in the trunk area, left flip door, the changer is there (if you have one), the DSP module should be buried below the changer, and in that cavity, there might be water (could have come from clogged sunroof drain), and that water may have done something...
Do you have original factory set up, or is there anything aftermarket? |

There is no changer, in the left rear theres nothing except a bunch of wires, the right side has something with speakers in it (sorry I dont know much about this stuff), but it is original factory.

ok, it might be time for pictures...
on the right side, if it is factory, there would be a subwoofer (if so equipped), that has two speakers in one big black enclosure. on the left side, even though there is no CD changer, if you look into the cavity, with a flashlight, you might be able to see some modules... snap a pic or two, post them for us to see... |

On my 3.0 w/o DSP it started doing this the other day, there was a bundle of wires coming from the hatch to the body on the right side that was chafing. It would randomly come on and then go back off. I pulled off the rubber boot and saw a stripped wire. Just an idea before you start replacing parts.

Ok pics coming. So when I look into the left side I didnt see any water, but when I felt the carpet or padding behind the wires and what I assume is th DSP, it is very wet.
