-oil filter housing leak. -pissing oil. A LOT OF OIL. -CCV doesnt work. -yellow sludge in cap and in dip stick. Heating engine snit enough. -Belts need replacing. seen some cracks today. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I attempted to do the gasket this morning, I learned without the special tool. I will never take apart the clutch Fan. So I put everything back and drove it. Still has oil leak problems. --------------------------------------------------------------------------Talked to a few trusted car business people. They told me the job is way to much to do, and will be very expensive. Even said to consider swapping the motor...?! -others said to put the car on the auction. loose money and buy JAP car. -_- -dealer offered me 6.5k as trade in for my 02 X5 3.0 94k miles. low.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now I will ask my indy to give me a quote and advice on what to repair. If its to expensive.. I will do the repairs on my own when I have time. And buy tools and parts needed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally question... What do you think? What else should I repair/replace since half my engine will be apart. Thank you -Alex

Appears to me that this is just the beginning of a car that is in bad need of major maintenance. The question you need to ask yourself is what are you willing to invest? Sounds like the car has been somewhat neglected and you will need time and plenty of money to fix it if you do it yourself. If not, sell the car quickly.

Indy quoted me $500.00 for the oil seal gasket. Belts can be done at the same time the oil seal is done since they have to come off, so you're just paying for new belts. If you're not a DIYer and you don't have a warranty for the BM Trouble U, a used out of warranty BM Trouble U is not the vehicle to own, not unless you have deep pockets.

Sell it and buy something that doesn't require so much work.

+5...
the car was either neglected or just a worn out dawg, prior to your getting it. Sell the sumbitch. Imo, used E53s, (maybe E70s, too), are a ticking expensive time bomb that usually only the original owners can enjoy. GL, mD

Do this at your own risk.
I brought the special tool to hold the fan when I did mine but there's a way to remove the fan clutch without the special tool. Removing BMW E46 Fan Clutch Nut - YouTube Go to a Pick N Pull and practice on a car before trying this on your car.

So here's the plan... Get a quote from my trusted mechanic. If its to much than I'm doing on my own. Hopefully it doesnt cost more than 2K. I will go all out and do preventive maintance. gaskets, hoses, belts. Make it last me another 2 years. Than save and when i turn 21 in 2 years I will buy a newer BMW. I cant agree upon buying a new cheap car now or trading my X5 for some junk. Yes the car breaks and is expensive to maintain. But when you drive it you forget all about that. I have yet to find a car with such luxury and performance. Honda and acura have nothing against BMW.

Just DIY it. Doesn't seem like too many problems really. A weekend with a friend or two and it could be in top notch shape. You Russian, fix that piece and learn something while you at it.
