Need O2 Sensor Information For 3.0

Hey Gents,

I need someone to back me up here.
The X5, 3.0 that I just picked up seems to have had its cats removed and a pair of straight pipes run through. As I was looking around on ebay for deals on cats, I noticed that the ones I was seeing have O2 sensor bungs on them.

Does someone have that info?
I need to know if this is fact because if it is, it explains why my service engine light is on. You see the straight pipes that were put on show no O2 sesnors so I have no idea where they are?

The bungs on the cats might be for the post-cat O2 sensors. You have 2 pre-cat sensors that monitor air/fuel mixture, and post-cat sensors to check on the cats performance. Pre-cat sensors are on the headers right by the side of the engine.
If you're missing either, your CEL will be on.
Did you try to read the CEL code and see if it's indeed the O2 sensors code? Auto part stores would do it for free in most places.

Well that explains a lot!

Are you 100% certain that the 2002 3.0 engine runs this setup? I only ask because I saw some pics later on of aftermarket cats for the 3.0 that did not show O2 bungs. I guess I can answer that question myself once I get under there and search for the sensor hookups which I am sure are still tucked away under there somewhere?

These cats look to come right after the manifolds. I guess like my Ridgeline, there are two sets? A pair at the manifolds and then a pair downstream on the pipes running under the cabin?

I am sure the ones referred to in that illustration are still in place. It was the cats downstream that I was wondering about. The PO said he had removed them and there are straight pipes welded in their place. Are there any O2 sensors after those 4?
