Im still mad about the stock system and my DSP malfunctioning whitenoise/clicking... I think i am going to tantrum for a few more months until i do anything about it.

I have DSP in my 4.6is and also was not satisfied with the bass it put out. I completely removed the DSP sub and replaced it with a 10 inch Kicker L7 in its place.

I just used this guide to tap into the stock system. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...ctory-amp.html

I now use an Alpine MRP-M500 (different than the one I have connected in the picture but basically the same thing)

The box is completely sealed. When I first installed it I was getting a bit of vibrations (mainly from the fuel door) outside and inside the car. I took it back out and dynamatted the entire area behind the sub and it makes a huge difference.

I am really happy with the way it sounds, it puts out a great range and when I want to really crank it up it is definitely capable of putting out a lot of bass. The whole project costed me around $400-$450

did you have someone build the box? do you have a cut sheet for it? I want to add a sub but i use most of my trunk space on the weekends...

Honestly I just went to Home Depot and got a 3x5 sheet of 1/2" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and a can of leakseal and just measured and cut as I went. When the box was all done to make it totally air tight I coated it a few times with that rubber spray inside and out. I can pull my box out this weekend and post some pictures and measurements if you want. What I like about mine is that with the DSP custom settings the 80 Htz control is essentially a built in gain control.

Leakseal

MDF

Kicker L5 Subwoofer

When I was designing my box I didn't want to mess with creating a port that went down to where the spare tire is like zerochief did http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...installed.html. I wanted to make sure I slightly exceeded the minimum cubic footage required for the L5 subwoofer in a non-ported box so I removed my fuel door lock actuator to gain the extra room, but it wasn't totally necessary. All you would need to do is shorten up the top of the box by 1/2" and you wouldn't have to worry about taking your actuator off and would still be right around 1 cubic foot.

With the right tools and carpentry skills zerocheif's DIY is a home run, I just lacked the woodworking abilities (and patience) required by his method.

Someone who you should contact is mrbmwx5 I'm pretty sure he was able to take a hacksaw to the stock DSP box and put his own shallow mount 10" in place of the two small ones that come stock. This will still require an additional amp to power the new sub and good quality shallow mount subwoofers are not inexpensive either.

UCrew, I don't think you can pull a cubic foot of box space out of your current location. The JL Stealthbox is only .62 cu/ft and they are utilizing the dropped area next to the spare tire well. In addition, the width of the their box is less than 1/2". I ve looked at this application at length when I thought I could fit a 12" in that area. It would have to be glassed in using every square inch of the entire surface.

You are absolutely right, my fault. The minimum cubic footage for the L5 is .66 and the max is 1.00 for sealed boxes. I knew I was pushing the minimum when I was designing it I just forgot what it was.

Here are a few quick pics of the box and area I have it in. With its odd shape and without pulling out anything from Calculus 2 I figure it to be roughly between .58 to .68 cubic feet. Keep in mind my area will be slightly larger than yours because I removed the fuel door lock actuator.

I actually did the same thing as you and removed to fuel door lock. I modified my Stealthbox so I could fit an Image Dynamics 10" in it.
