Xenon head light right is weaker than left?

Hi Experts,

Just a question;
During the yearly check of my E53 3.0i (2001), the mechanic told me that the Xenon bulb on the right side (passenger side) is pretty much weaker than the drivers side.
I had a new starter, changed it but the problem remains the same.
I switched the xenon bulbs from left to right and vice versa and it remains the same.
Installed new bulbs in both headlights and problem remains the same...

Is it correct that the right side is weaker than the left side or is there another (known) problem? Maybe drivers side is too strong??

There are no failures when hooking up to my laptop

Thanks!

Do the pre-facelifts have seperate ballasts and igniters? (not overly familiar with the pre-face lift internals) You could have a ballast on the way out. I assume you made sure when swapping bulbs that they were seated correctly?.....I know that sounds trivial but even if its off a hair, can have massive impact on the overall output as the arc will not line up properly inside the bowl, thus making it dim.

Does it aimed correctly? Might be a dirty projector. GL.

I ended up opening the complete head light unit.
Finally found out that the reflector behind the Xenon bulb was infected by erosion and was completely dull.

Part is not sold individually by BMW so I ended up covering the inside with heat resistant aluminium tape and polished it gently.

The light shines again as bright as a diamond......

You could also contact Matt at TRS, they probably have some bowls in their parts bin...if you're lucky they may have some with a Mirror finish. I'd be wary of putting anything inside the bowl, especially anything with a glue/adhesive as they do get quite warm.

Good work!!

Did you have to bake it open? Also is there a possibility that we can polish it up again?
