Thermo top Z works when I unlock the car

Hi, I recently started to hear something working every time I unlocked my car. It is a facelifted 2004 X5 3.0d. It would stop after 2-3 minutes. I unlocked the car and immediately opened the bonnet and the Thermo Top Z was working for 2-3 minutes the stopped.
Can anyone help why this is happening and how it can be fixed?

Thank you

Constantinos

love to help but not too many people here own the deisels. i have no clue about them either.
My random guess is since its getting colder its warming longer and its fine.
Does the car run fine?

The car is running fine but I own the car since 2008 and I am sure it did not do this before. The strange thing is that it does this as soon as I unlock the car, before starting the engine.

I have a 3.0d too, but I've never heard that box making any sound. I assume you are talking about the box at the left side of the engine compartment? I have no idea how that works, to be frank, LoRL.

My solution was to disconnect the connector from thermo top z, in this part of Spain not cold.

Same here, Greece is not exactly cold in the winter. I wonder if you have any idea how that thing is supposed to work. It just sits there, taking up space, as far as I am concerned.

The thermo top z is supposed to work on cold days, not sure under which temperature. It works on cold start to help the engine coolant heat up and reach normal temperature faster as Diesel engines take longer to heat up and reach normal temperature.
I suppose I could disconnect it too, never really cold for 90% of the year in Cyprus.
When you disconnect it do you get any warning lights or messages in the instrument panel?
