Oh Misfires... P0300

I know, there are a lot of threads on P0300 code, just read through them..

I have a few specific questions (2004, 4.4. 112,500 miles)

Car started up with a bit of a misfire, shaking and SES light flashing, this happened about 2 weeks ago, and the SES light went off, all ok. Now, a couple days ago, it happened again, SES light is still on. Had Autozone read her--P0300 multiple misfire. I've had my intermediate levers replaced in the past, and i know they are prone to failure again (we're now 3 years later, and about 30-35k miles)

So my questions are:

-Could it be something simpler than intermediate levers again? my mech buddy said i should try using "dry gas" to make sure theres no condensation or water in my gas line

-If it is intermediate levers again--what kind of harm would it be to leave this untouched? I really would rather not spend 3k to get these replaced since i am now out of warranty and have already spent 3500 this year for a damn transfer case

-My spark plugs are all 2 months old, and two ignition coils were replaced recently, could it just be the rest of the coils going sour?

What would you do if you were me at this point?

PS, i'm going to grab my friends OBDII scanner and clear the code to see if it comes back. It could just be a fluke... Autozone wouldnt clear it, against NYS law

Ah, New York, home of legislation that doesn't allow Autozones and other part stores press a button. Because you should have to pay $95 for the privilege.

I personally think the whole Int Levers is a bunch of BS. Not saying it's not the issue, but there are enough people on here, like yourself, who have had them replaced only to have the problem come right back.

I deal with my SES light in the winter when it shakes once or twice.

Just checking....did you run out of warranty on the car or warranty on your repair?

Really? New York cant clear a code at autozone = FAIL

Nazario I don't have much knowledge on your engine as far as intermediate levers go, but if the other 4 coil packs are original at your mileage you never know, they might be going. Plugs sound good since they are new.

What your buddy said about "dry gas" is correct in a way, at school your car probably goes on short trips often, and sits outside in very cold temps right? Well if your tank isn't always filled to the brim, that space that is occupied by air, becomes moist, colder, denser air since it is sitting outside in the extreme upstate cold, and you may very well be getting some moisture in your lines/tank.

Go to Autozone, buy a 6 pack of the RED "HEET" bottles (I like the Red better than the original YELLOW bottles basically more additives), and pop 2 of them at a time in your tank and fill it up (I'd say one for a normal size tank but our friggin tanks are 25 gallons). Let me know how she does after that. Before I bought my house when I stored my car outside at my condo I always popped a couple bottles in over the course of the winter, basically its high concentrate isopropyl alcohol and a couple other additives which will suck the moisture out of your tank/gas lines and hopefully will run smoother.

No negative effects, its a tip my old man taught me way back when I started driving 10 years ago, as far as preventative during winter maintenance. He used to put a bottle in once a week on his truck.

I'd start with clearing the code and the HEET (2 bottles = $3), and see how she runs and if any codes come back. If you are still throwing misfire codes, doing the other 6 coilpacks in hopes of smoothing out the running of your truck is still cheaper than going through another intermediate lever job as far as i can tell.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I will head out and buy the HEET. RB--my car actually sits in a garage, dont ask me how much money i drop to do that. But it does get cold in there.

My repair on the levers was done 3 years ago, so, i assume i am out of warranty on that (BMW gives 2 years, unlimited mileage warranty on repairs done).

I'm clearing the code tomorrow, lets hope it doesnt come back. Good thing one of my professors has an OBD II

PS on the code clearing thing at Autozone--the guy said that they actually had a state employee come and check up on him. They asked him to clear the code on the car and luckily the guy knew better. It isnt even a fine for the store, its a fine to the person who did it! Fucking bullshit if you ask me
