I got my 2001 X back with a new (rebuilt) 3.0 in it. The guy in my opinion is worthless at the details but the engine seems to be doing well. When I received it back, the steering wheel is about 20 degrees off of center and the wheels are straight. I took it to the alignment shop and he stated that the rack and the steering wheel needs to be recentered amongst replacing every part in the front end due to slop (inner & outer tie rods, lower control arms, sway bar links, etc).
Is there an easy way to recenter the rack and the steering wheel? Do you have to loosen a power steering hose to turn it without turning the wheels? I asked the guy who installed the engine and he said he didnt know. Any assistance would be appreciated.
